Questions

Questions about CallMe.

Everything people ask us. If yours is not here, email support@m3xi.com and a person will answer.

The basics

What is CallMe?

CallMe is for meeting new people by talking to them. Press the letter three times and you are matched with someone who is online now. The call starts as voice, and cameras come on only if you both ask. No swiping through profiles, and no chat that dies after two messages.

What does “ditch the card games” mean?

Most apps for meeting people are a card game: swipe through profiles, collect matches, then wait on a chat that dies after two messages. CallMe skips all of that. The first thing you do with someone new is talk to them.

Is CallMe a dating app?

No. CallMe is for meeting people and having a conversation. Dating is welcome if that is where a conversation goes, but it is not the point, and nobody on CallMe is a profile to be sorted through.

Who makes CallMe?

M3XI LTD, a small company in London. It was founded by Michael and co-founded with Leo Chi. Meet the team.

Calls, tables and events

How does matching work?

There is one setting: My country or International. My country looks for people in your own country, and International for people in other countries. It goes by the flag on your profile, not by where your phone is. CallMe then introduces you to someone who is free to talk right now.

Nobody is filtered by age, gender or distance: everyone you meet has passed the same age check, and you are not matched with anyone you have blocked. You can change the setting whenever you like.

Does my camera come on straight away?

No. Every one-to-one call starts as voice. Cameras turn on only when both of you ask. One person can never switch on the other person's camera, and you can turn yours off at any time without ending the call.

At a table, the host sets the camera rule: voice only, up to each person, or cameras on.

What if the conversation isn't going anywhere?

Skip, once the first minute is up. We find you both someone new, and nobody has to explain themselves. If it was a good conversation, you can ask to be friends instead.

If you ever feel unsafe, blocking or reporting takes you out of the call straight away, at any point.

Can I talk to more than one person?

Yes. Open a table around a topic and a few people can sit down together, or pull up a chair at someone else's. If you lead a party, your friends sit down with you when there is room.

Are there things to do on a call?

Nine games you can start mid-call for everyone on it at once: two truths and a lie, charades, categories, would you rather, 21 questions, sketch together, memory match, a crossword and a quick quiz.

How do events work?

Events are big tables, themed nights and meet-ups. See what's on at m3xi.com/events or in the app, which reminds you an hour before each one starts. At the venue, scan the event's code with your phone's camera to check in with CallMe.

The dog, walks and friends

What is the dog?

A small cartoon dog who lives in CallMe and shows new members round, with a short guided tour of calling, your card and poster, the collection, friends, the map and walks.

Tap the dog to hear what your friends are up to. Press and hold it, then let go, to open the friends map. Press it and give your phone a quick shake to start a walk, and do the same to stop. You can hide the dog in Settings, under Your dog.

How do walks work?

Press the dog and give your phone a shake, or choose Walk the dog in Settings, under Your dog. CallMe measures the distance, your pace, the time and about how many calories, and keeps your personal bests for you to beat.

It uses your location only while CallMe is open, and counts your steps too if you say yes. Every walk can be deleted from Your walks.

What are snapshots?

Photos you share with your friends for 24 hours. Take one or choose one from your phone. Every snapshot is checked before your friends see it, and you can delete yours at any time.

Who can see me on the friends map?

Only friends, and only once you turn it on: location sharing is off until you choose. Share with all your friends or just the ones you pick, and show your town or your precise spot.

Sharing switches itself off 24 hours after you turn it on, and you can turn it off sooner in Settings, under Location. Your phone sends your place only while CallMe is open, never in the background.

Posters and cards

How do I make a poster?

Your poster is what friends see when they open you, and people you've met too if you let them. Make it in the app: go to Settings, then My poster. Pick a paper, then pinch and twist to place your photos, words, stickers and modules, and pin them up. Take a photo or choose one, and the cropper fits it to its frame.

How do I make a card?

In the app, go to Settings, then My poster, then Edit my cards. Pick a paper, add stickers and your words, and the card is yours.

CallMe Premium members can also design card art of their own on a computer, at m3xi.com/design: bring a picture you made yourself, or build one from the papers and stickers. Every design is read by a person before anyone can be given one. Then it lands in your collection in the app, and you can give copies to people you have met on a call.

Who can use the creator studio?

It comes with CallMe Premium, in the app. You also need to have passed the age check and agreed to the creator terms, which are in the app under Settings, then Creator terms.

After that, open m3xi.com/design on a computer and scan the code on the screen with your phone. There is no password.

What happens to a card I was given if the creator leaves?

It stays yours. Your copy stays on your cards and in your collection if the person who made it retires the design, stops making cards or deletes their account. If they have left CallMe, the copy says so and shows nothing more about them.

A copy only goes if our team takes the design down, for example because it copied someone else's work. If that happens you get a letter saying so, and nothing else about your account changes. A copy is yours to wear. It cannot be passed on or sold.

If you think a design copies your own work, tell us here.

Safety and privacy

Who can use CallMe?

Adults aged 18 and over. Everyone verifies their age before they can call anyone, with an identity document, a live selfie and a face match. The check is carried out by our verification provider, and we receive the result rather than your documents.

How do I stay safe on a call?

On every call you can silence someone for yourself, block them, or report them. A report never tells the other person who filed it. A block works both ways, so neither of you can be matched with the other, and you can undo it in Settings. Verification proves someone is a real adult. It is not a background check, so never share financial details or your home address.

Our child safety standards explain how we keep under-18s out.

Are calls recorded?

No. CallMe does not record the audio or video of your calls, never turns what is said into text, and nothing listens in. When video is on, still frames are checked for nudity. A person on our safety team reads every report.

What we do collect, and why, is set out in the CallMe privacy policy.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to Settings, then Delete account and data. If you no longer have the app, email support@m3xi.com from the address you signed up with; m3xi.com/delete-account explains how.

Cost and devices

How much does CallMe cost?

CallMe is free to use, with five calls a day. You can earn more by watching an advert or by completing weekly achievements. CallMe Premium removes the daily limit and gives you a head start in matching, tables for up to twenty people and the creator studio. Premium and call credits are optional, and you'll find them, with the price where you live, inside the app.
